Privacy Policy
Last updated: March 31, 2026
MTNMetrics, LLC ("MTNMetrics," "we," "us," or "our") operates the mymtnmetrics.com website and the MTNMetrics mobile application (collectively, the "Service"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our Service.
Information We Collect
We collect information in the following ways:
Information You Provide
- Email address: When you join our waitlist or create an account
- Account information: When you create an account in our mobile app, we collect profile information and body measurements (weight, height, age, biological sex, and optionally body fat percentage) that you enter for metabolic rate calculations. These are user-entered values, not sourced from Apple HealthKit.
- Trip data: Routes, meal plans, and other hiking-related data you create in the app
Information Collected Automatically
- Usage data: Pages visited, features used, and interactions with the Service (e.g., trips created, routes drawn, paywall views)
- Device information: Device model, operating system version, app version, locale, timezone, and network type (Wi-Fi/cellular) on mobile; browser type and screen size on web
- Geographic location: General location derived from your IP address (country/region level). We do not collect or store precise GPS coordinates — see Location Data below.
- Referral information: How you arrived at our website
Location Data
The MTNMetrics mobile app requests "When In Use" location permission to display your position on the map. This location data is processed locally on your device by our mapping SDK for map display only. MTNMetrics does not collect, store, or transmit your GPS coordinates to our servers. Route coordinates that you create (waypoints, drawn routes, imported GPX tracks) are stored server-side as part of your trip data — these are route plans you author, not your real-time location.
Free Calculator (No Account Required)
When you use our free hiking calorie calculator without an account, the body measurements you enter (weight, height, age, body fat percentage) are processed locally in your browser and are not transmitted to or stored on our servers. We only collect anonymous usage analytics (that a calculation was performed, not the specific values entered).
Tracking Technologies
Website
Our website uses session-based analytics and browser storage such as session storage. No persistent tracking cookies are stored on your device. Session data is automatically deleted when you close the browser tab. We respect the "Do Not Track" browser setting.
Mobile App
The iOS app uses a mobile analytics SDK for product analytics. The SDK uses a persistent anonymous device identifier stored locally on your device. When you sign in, this identifier may be linked to your account. When you sign out, the identifier is reset and a new anonymous identifier is generated. We do not track you across other apps or websites and do not use Apple's App Tracking Transparency framework because no cross-app tracking occurs.
How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide, maintain, and improve our Service
- Send you transactional communications (e.g., email confirmation, password reset)
- Send marketing communications when you opt in (e.g., trail tips, product updates). You can unsubscribe at any time via the link in any email.
- Analyze usage patterns to improve user experience
- Respond to your inquiries and support requests
- Detect and prevent fraud or abuse
How We Share Your Information
We do not sell your personal information. We may share your information in the following circumstances:
Service Providers
We use third-party service providers and infrastructure partners to help operate our Service. Depending on the features you use, these providers may receive the categories of data described below, but each provider only receives the data reasonably necessary for its function:
- Authentication and account infrastructure: May receive email, hashed credentials, account profile data, and user-created content needed to authenticate you and store your account.
- Analytics and diagnostics providers: May receive usage events, device information (such as model, operating system, app version, locale, timezone, browser type, and network type), and account identifiers such as email or user ID for signed-in users.
- Subscription management providers: May receive user ID, email, subscription status, transaction metadata, and linked analytics identifiers used to associate subscription events with your account.
- Email delivery, CRM, and messaging providers: May receive user ID, email, account status, subscription status, and marketing preference status. Marketing emails are only sent when you opt in.
- Mapping, routing, and elevation providers: May receive map tile requests, viewport coordinates, waypoint coordinates, and route geometry needed to render maps, snap routes to trails, and calculate terrain metrics. A mapping provider may also offer optional anonymized usage telemetry, which is off by default and user-controllable via an in-app setting.
- Payment processors and app stores: If you subscribe through the Apple App Store, Apple processes your payment. We do not receive or store your payment card details.
- Hosting, storage, CDN, and infrastructure providers: May process data routed through our systems to host the website, API, and supporting infrastructure. All API traffic is encrypted in transit.
Legal Requirements
We may disclose your information if required by law or in response to valid legal requests from public authorities.
Data Retention
We retain your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide you services. Specifically:
- Account data: Retained until you delete your account
- Trip and route data: Retained until you delete individual trips or your account
- Subscription records: Deleted from our systems when you delete your account. Apple and our subscription management providers may retain independent transaction records under their own policies.
- Analytics data: Retained under our analytics providers' data retention policies. Deleted or suppressed when you delete your account.
- Email marketing contacts: Retained until you unsubscribe or delete your account
- Waitlist emails: Retained until you unsubscribe
